WATER QUALITY PROBLEMS
Owner Challenges Press Coverage
(Klamath Falls, OR) Carol Lin, owner of Round Lake Estates and RL Water Company, has adamantly denied recent published reports of customer dissatisfaction and low water quality at her Klamath Falls, OR operation. "We run a very nice and beautiful facility… a great place to live," said Lin in a recent telephone interview. "For the Pioneer Press to use the word "turd-like" in their article is an affront to me and to our whole community." Lin stressed that no fecal contamination had ever been documented with RL Water or at Round Lake Estates. "The choice of that word was meant to be inflammatory."
Lin, who is originally from Taiwan, attributes the problem and the negative rumors to one disgruntled land owner and anti-immigrant sentiment in Oregon. "They scratched my car… which caused over $4,000 worth of damage. This is not how things are supposed to be in America," said Lin, obviously upset by what she considers false claims and false accusations. "I had the water tested and the state said that everything was fine. I have a Certified Water Operator. Our water is clean. We follow the rules." During one brief period where Lin admits that the water system was not operational she provided bottled water and shower privilege vouchers at the local YMCA paid for by her company. "I have gone out of my way to help people be happy with the water and with life here at Round Lake Estates."
The Klamath County Health Department has taken on the responsibility for regular testing of the water at Round Lake Estates. "They have tested our water to be safe," said Lin, who suggests that anyone having concerns should contact either the Oregon PUC or the Klamath County Health Department to review the official records. "People should come to visit at Round Lake Estates to see how beautiful it is here. Talk with the residents. We are all just trying to get along."
